Characters
Guy Montag
Guy Montag is the main protagonist. Montag is a fireman, a member of a society that burns books. He later realizes that the books that he has been burning are good and becomes an outlaw and a fugitive.
Clarisse McClellan
Clarisse McClellan was Guy Montag's next door neighbor. She represented an outlier within the society of Fahrenheit 451. She actually thinks, unlike most people. When she is hit by a car and dies in the end of the book, it causes Montag to break away from society and become an outlaw.
Faber
Faber was a professor who lost his job when books were banned. He met Montag in a park once and when Montag becomes an outlaw Montag goes back and finds Faber. Faber teaches Montag about literature and helps him make his escape.
Mildred Montag
Mildred Montag is Guy Montag's wife. She represents the common woman in this dystopian society. Her favorite pastimes are watching TV and watching TV with her friends. She has suicidal tendencies and tries to kill herself in the beginning of the book.
Beatty
Captain Beatty is the fire chief at the station where Montag works. Although he is very knowledgeable about books, he has a deep hated for them and passionately believes book burning. After he realizes that Montag has turned to the book side and he tries to turn him back to the book burning side. Montag kills Beatty and the other fireman in an attempt to save his own life.
Mechanical Hound
The Mechanical Hound is a robot in the shape of a dog that the firemen use to track down the enemies of the state. Its fang contains anesthetic which it can use to slow its victims.
